R-TECH Materials is proud to announce that Composites Manager Dr Geraint Havard has been shortlisted for Employee of Year in the Composites UK Industry Awards 2020.
Since 2013, Geraint has been responsible for R-TECH’s composites testing business and over the past six and a half years, he has overseen the transformation of the business in terms of technical capability, quality systems, accreditations, marketing reach and reputation. Thanks to Geraint’s work, R-TECH now boasts one of the largest scopes of UKAS accredited composites testing and has become only the second Nadcap accredited non-metallic accredited test lab in the UK. On top of this, Geraint has also helped the company achieve ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and Fit4Nuclear accreditations.
Last year Geraint published a well-received eBook on the testing of composite materials and he is committed to developing the next generation of composite testing engineers, through the popular training course on mechanical testing of composite materials that R-TECH runs in conjunction with Zwick Roell.
Geraint also heads up the research and development of composites at R-TECH, supervising a successful Engineering doctorate, being involved in a number of collaborative research projects, and winning a JEC innovation award in 2017.
Geraint is the Composites UK representative on the British Standards Institution (BSI) standards committee for composite materials. He also holds a seat on the composite materials committee of the American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM), applying his knowledge to ensure the integrity and accuracy of testing standards on composite materials.
His focus on business development has led to a 300% growth in R-TECH’s composites testing turnover in 2019 and despite Covid-19, the business is on course for a further 50% growth during 2020.
From the moment he started in the company, Geraint has stressed that he wants R-TECH to become the number one test lab for composites in the UK in every aspect of the business and we feel like he is delivering on his vision. We believe that Geraint embodies the qualities that R-TECH stands for as a business and given his achievements, we feel that Geraint would make a worthy winner of the employee of the year award. As a business R-TECH would like to wish Geraint all the very best in the final of the award.
R-Tech’s Managing Director, Dr Tony Franks says “Since taking over our composites testing business, Geraint’s ambition has always been to make us the number one test laboratory in the UK, whether in terms of technical capability, service delivery or customer service. In the last two tears especially, we are starting to see Geraint delivering on this vision. We believe that Geraint embodies the values which R-TECH stands for, and would make a worthy winner of the employee of the year award. Well done Geraint.”
